Using your scratch cards

Resident visitor parking permits let your visitors park in any vacant on-street resident permit holder’s space, or shared use space; during the operational hours of the Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ). This does not include 'business only' bays.

Validate your scratch card

Either you or your visitor will need to validate it. This is done by scratching out one of each of the following:

  • Day
  • Date
  • Month
  • Period – as described on the card, this is the session you are parking for.

Display your scratch card

Display the card(s) face up on the vehicle’s nearside dashboard so that it is clearly visible.

If the vehicle is to park for more than one session, then multiple validated scratch cards may be displayed side by side so that all details are visible from outside the vehicle.

Be aware: Cards validated incorrectly, displayed face down or not visible from outside the vehicle may result in the issue of a penalty charge notice to the vehicle.

Parking costs

Each scratch card will enable your visitor to park in your zone for one half day, at the costs shown below for the appropriate zone.

  • For zones A1 and A2 - One half day session scratch card: £2.20; with over-60s discount £ 1.10
  • For all other zones - One half day session scratch card: £1.10; with over-60s discount. 0.55p

Resident visitor parking permits are not valid in off-street car parks or pay and display bays. A table of places where permits are valid is available on where to park.
