Books and reading

Reader Development

Reader Development has been described as "Audience Development for Literature"

It is also about finding a good book!

Reader Development is the term now used in libraries across the UK to describe a new, active and creative approach to aspects of library service provision, such as library stock promotions and events for readers, where the focus is on:

  • Engaging with reading as a popular leisure activity
  • Opening up reading choices
  • Offering people an increased enjoyment of reading
  • Creating opportunities to share the reading experience

Recommend a book!

Richmond Libraries are delivering Reading Development through:

  • New contemporary fiction selection
  • Stock promotions and book displays
  • Booklists, book reviews and readers recommendations
  • Reading groups and book chat sessions
  • Events for readers
