Release Date: 05/09/2008
People working and living in the borough can now sign up to CommunitySafe, a new London-wide website that provides real-time information on critical incidents direct to mobile phones and email.
The site is being launched in the borough to coincide with the London Week of Peace, which runs from 13-21 September.
CommunitySafe will provide traffic, transport and crime updates, with those signing up able to choose the areas they would like details from.
Sir David Williams, Cabinet Member for Communities, said:
“I’m delighted Richmond upon Thames has been added to the CommunitySafe website. We are dedicated to keeping our borough the safest in London. To do so it is important people can receive up-to-date safety information and I would encourage residents to log on to see what the site has to offer.
“I would also urge people to attend some of the activities and events taking place as part of London Week of Peace. They will provide valuable crime-prevention services, as well as being good fun too.”
Alerts from CommunitySafe will be sent to residents by the Police and Richmond upon Thames Council.
A launch event, held on 15 September, in the Clarendon Hall, Twickenham, will mark the borough’s inclusion on the site.
The London Week of Peace is an annual event that aims to raise awareness of community safety and help reduce crime and the fear of crime.
Activities taking place include; safer neighbourhood teams providing free ipod, mobile phone and bike markings, a five-a-side football tournament in Teddington and a Week of Peace walk in Bushy Park.
