Summer scheme for children's health

A new summer schedule has been launched for RichFit, the 10-week healthy living programme for children and their parents run by Richmond Council.

Weekly sessions for 8-14 year olds will start on June 4 at Richmond upon Thames College, Egerton Road, Twickenham, and run from 4.30pm - 6.00pm.

Devised by the Council’s Health Improvement Team and dieticians from Richmond and Twickenham Primary Care Trust (PCT), RichFit is a fun way for parents and children to tackle weight concerns together.

Sessions will feature advice on healthy eating and the chance for parents to join their children in a range of sports and activities.

Cllr Denise Carr, Cabinet Member for Adult Services, Health and Housing on Richmond Council, said:

“It is very important to get children thinking about their health and fitness as early as possible.

“What we eat and how much exercise we take can have a significant impact on our health, confidence, concentration and general well-being.

“The sessions will provide valuable advice and a range of interesting activities that should be great fun for all taking part.”

The scheme is free, with places offered on a first come, first served basis
