Residents looking to help the community are being urged to consider joining one of the hundreds of voluntary organisations in the borough.
Richmond Council has issued the call on the eve of National Volunteers’ Week, which runs from 1-7 June.
Richmond Council for Voluntary Services (RCVS) is hosting a number of events during the week to raise awareness of the wealth of local volunteering opportunities.
Among the events taking place is a Taster Day giving information about the role of volunteers to be held at the Volunteer Centre, 1 Princes Street, Richmond on Tuesday, 3 June, from 10am-1pm.
You can find information about local volunteering opportunities at a Recruitment Fair at York House on Wednesday, 4 June, which runs from noon-6pm.
And there is a workshop for those interested in helping people with mental, physical and learning disabilities, at Holly Lodge in Richmond Park on Tuesday, 10 June, from 10am-1pm.
Staff and volunteers from RCVS and local organisations will be at each event.
Cllr Denise Carr, Cabinet Member for Adult Services, Health and Housing on Richmond Council, said:
“Volunteers’ Week is a great opportunity to find out more information about volunteering in the borough, with a range of workshops and open days being staged.
“The work of volunteers is crucial to improving the quality of life of our residents, particularly those who are most vulnerable.
“It also offers a great opportunity to meet new people and learn fresh skills.”
David Sidonio, Chief Executive of RCVS, added:
“We always look forward to Volunteers’ Week, it’s a great time to show our appreciation of volunteers and help more people find exciting roles. Roles include administration, buddying, events planning, gardening and much more besides.
“The Taster Days are a brilliant way of learning what volunteering is really about and the Recruitment Fair encourages lots of people to give their time to help others, whether it be a couple of hours a month or several days a week.”
