Richmond Council is backing an initiative encouraging more pupils to walk to school.
The Walk on Wednesday, or WoW campaign, comes to the borough next Wednesday (May 7) with an official launch at Hampton Junior School, including the well-known children’s favourite Debra the Zebra.
The scheme was developed as a way of enabling schools to promote walking to school on a regular basis.
Eight local schools have signed up after having their School Travel Plan approved, and more schools will be coming on board in the future.
Richmond Council’s Cabinet Member for Traffic, Transport and Parking, Cllr David Trigg, said:
“Along with Walk to School weeks, WoW is an excellent initiative and a great way of keeping children and parents active and healthy throughout the year.
“The Council does all it can to encourage walking, cycling and other sustainable forms of travel and we are delighted with the interest shown in the scheme locally.”
