Cycle power hits the borough

A street bicycle

Spokes of fun: that is the promise for a special event being staged by Richmond Council during National Bike Week, which runs from June 14 to 22.

The Council is holding an event on the rugby field at Marble Hill Park on Sunday June 15 which promises cycle fun galore.

There will be guided cycle rides, displays by a mountain bike stunt team and cycle health checks. Police will be on hand to security mark your bike.

And competitions will be held with some excellent cycling prizes to be won.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to talk to experts and gather information about local cycling groups, cycle training, cycle routes in the borough and local bike shops.

There will also be a chance to make your own smoothie by pedal power!

And children will be invited to decorate their bike in a “bling your bike” competition.

This free event is open to the public between 10am and 4pm.

Richmond Council’s Cabinet Member for Traffic, Transport and Parking, Cllr David Trigg, said:

“The Council does all it can to encourage cycling and other healthy, sustainable, modes of travel.

“Bike Week provides a marvellous opportunity to promote cycling as a means of bringing families together, as well as being a great source of fitness and fun.

“I hope as many residents as possible come along to our special event.

“We can promise something for everyone – from total novices to passionate cyclists, and those people who are thinking of taking up cycling for the first time.

“I hope the event will fire their enthusiasm.”
