Chance to name new youth magazine

Young people now have the opportunity to name the borough’s first publication written entirely by young people for young people.

Overseen by Richmond Council’s Integrated Youth Support, the magazine will be launched in September and will cover major issues and contain information that matters to young people locally. It will be produced quarterly for delivery to every home and school in the borough.

Thirty five budding journalists and photographers aged 11 to 19 are currently being interviewed to join the editorial team. Fifteen applicants will be selected to write, take photographs and edit the free publication.

Cllr. John Coombs, Cabinet Member for Youth, Culture and Leisure on Richmond Council, said:

“Engaging with young people is one of the Council’s main aims, ensuring the services we provide meet their needs and expectations.

“It is also important for young people to have their say on the issues that matter to them and this publication will be both a forum for their views and a great source of information about the range of services at their disposal.

“It is important the young people are involved throughout the entire production process, including naming the magazine. There are eleven titles to choose from – all of which were suggested by young people. At the end of the voting, one of the entrants will be randomly chosen to win an iPod.”

The deadline is 9 June 2008 at 5pm.
