New safeguards introduced for vulnerable adults

A new policy to safeguard vulnerable adults was launched by Richmond Council and partners at a conference in Teddington last week.

Representatives from the Council, Richmond and Twickenham Primary Care Trust, the police and local care organisations were among those who attended the conference, which was held to support World Elder Abuse Day.

Top of the agenda was the launch of the Safeguarding Adults Policy, which seeks to strengthen partnerships between care organisations in the borough and increase awareness of preventative measures.

Cllr Serge Lourie, Leader of Richmond Council, said:

“Strengthening partnerships between local organisations is vital to improving preventative and protection services, and the access to them by vulnerable adults.

“We also want to ensure that those who come into contact with vulnerable people on a regular basis have all the necessary support and advice they need.”
