In March Richmond Council announced an academies programme for three borough schools. Edutrust, an educational charity currently working to open ten other academies in the country, was chosen as the preferred sponsor for Shene School in East Sheen.
Edutrust will be holding an open meeting for anyone who is interested in learning more about their proposals on Tuesday 17th June at 6.30 p.m. at Shene School and the council wants as many local people as possible to come along.
Cllr Malcolm Eady, Cabinet Member for Education and Children’s Services on Richmond Council said:
“The academies programme is an exciting opportunity for Shene School. It will allow us to drive up educational standards at the school while at the same time attracting millions of pounds in government grants for rebuilding and upgrading existing facilities.
“However in order for the programme to succeed we need to work closely with everyone who is involved. It is particularly important that we consider the views of parents of children at the school and also parents of children at primary schools in the borough who are likely want to go on to Shene School.
“I urge as many parents from the local community as possible to come along to the meeting on 17 June to help us draw up the best plans for the school in the future. Their views are vital to the decision-making process.”
Fred Groom, Chief Executive of Edutrust added:
“We are committed to work with the community to develop an academy which provides local young people with first class educational opportunities and also to provide excellent facilities that all local people may use outside of the school day.”
A document called an Expression of Interest is currently being prepared by Edutrust and the Council setting out the vision for the Academy. This will need to be agreed by the Council’s Cabinet in September. Views expressed at the public meeting will contribute to the drafting of the Expression of Interest.
