No let-up in environmental blitz

An environmental improvement blitz will target the Uxbridge Road area of Hampton near the Sainsbury’s superstore this Friday (July 4) and Church Road, Teddington, a week later.

These weekly, clean-up operations are part of an ongoing drive coordinated by Richmond Council to smarten up the Borough.

Activities will include purges on litter, flyposting and abandoned cars. Overgrown hedges and overhanging trees will be cut back.

As well as the Council’s Street Scene Enforcement team, other organisations taking part in this Friday’s operation will include local businesses including Sainsbury’s, McDonalds and the Amida club.

There will also be involvement by the Community Payback Service where offenders supervised by the Probation Service and the Police will help with the clean-up operation.

Richmond Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Cllr Martin Elengorn, said:

“These ongoing operations are a key element of our drive to ensure the Borough remains clean and tidy.

“Clean streets are a very high priority and I am delighted at the excellent example being shown by local businesses in working with the Council to tackle these problems.

“I would encourage as many businesses as possible to get involved in all our future operations.”

This Friday’s clean-up will take place on the Uxbridge Road and along the Amida public footpath between 10am and 3pm.
