Local students showcase their maths skills

The borough’s brightest year seven mathematicians went head-to-head at a Maths Challenge on Wednesday 2 July at Richmond upon Thames College.

Representatives from eight local secondary schools took part in a fun evening of maths problems and puzzles, at the annual event coordinated by Richmond Council.

Year seven pupils faced questions covering a range of topics including observation, reasoning, logic, shape and space, numbers and practical activities.

A tiebreaker saw Orleans Park School claim the competition, just coming out on top of Teddington School. The winning team was awarded prizes and a shield.

Families, friends and members of the public were invited to go along and offer their support. There was even an opportunity for guests to try out their skills at solving the problems.

Cllr Malcolm Eady, Cabinet Member for Children's Services and Education, said:

“The maths challenge is a great opportunity for local students to show-off their talents. Some of the problems they were asked to solve would have tested most of us.

“Congratulations to the winning team and all the students who were selected to represent their school.

The event was held at the Edmund Keane Theatre at Richmond upon Thames College.
