‘Outskirts’, the borough’s first magazine to be written by young people for their peers, has received a boost thanks to the Jack Petchey Foundation.
A cheque for £5,000 was presented to the editor of the magazine, Flo Wright, by Anna Clark from the Foundation.
Fifteen young people aged 11 to 19 were also recently chosen to join the editorial team as journalists, photographers and editors.
Overseen by Richmond Council’s Integrated Youth Support Service, the magazine will be launched in September and will look at major issues that matter to local young people. It will be produced quarterly and delivered to every home and school in the borough.
Cllr Liz Jaeger, Cabinet Member for Youth, Culture and Leisure on Richmond Council, said:
“Engaging with young people is a major objective of the Council, ensuring the services we provide meet their needs and expectations.
“I would like to thank the Jack Petchey Foundation for their generous support of this initiative and offer my congratulations to the young people who have been selected to play an important role in producing ‘Outskirts’.
“I am sure it will be a fantastic magazine that offers a forum for young people to have their say on issues that matter to them.”
Anna Clark, from the Jack Petchey Foundation, said:
“We are delighted to be supporting this invaluable project. A core objective of the Foundation is to enable young people to have a positive voice within their communities.
“This magazine will allow young people in Richmond an opportunity to address issues in their own style and on their own terms.”
