A big facelift has smartened-up one of the borough’s historic buildings, York House in Twickenham.
The renovation of the front facade, including a new disabled access, has just been completed.
The works, which have taken 18 weeks to complete, also include restoration of damaged brickwork by a specialist contractor, whose previous projects include work on the Houses of Parliament, Windsor Castle and the Royal Albert Hall.
The distinctive window shutters have been restored and roof repairs carried out.
The rose beds at the front of the building, which is Grade 2* listed, have also been replanted, which complement the restoration works. New CCTV has also been installed.
The Council is currently planning the next phase of improvement works which are likely to see the rear (southern) elevation refurbished and redecorated.
Richmond Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Cllr Martin Elengorn, said:
“It is more than 20 years since the last substantial external redecoration programme at York House and we are delighted with the results.
“As well as being used for Council offices, the building is also a favourite venue for weddings and civil partnership ceremonies.
“And it’s an even more splendid backdrop now.
“I am also delighted that we have renovated the planting scheme in front of York House with a selection of modern scented roses and other perennials.”
