Free information workshops for unpaid carers in the borough are being provided by Richmond Council in partnership with Richmond Carers Centre (RCC).
The sessions are aimed at the thousands of residents who provide unpaid support to a family member, friend or neighbour who may be elderly, have a physical or mental disability or an addiction
There a variety of sessions running each month, covering topics such as back care and spinal health, deaf awareness and dementia.
They are run by health and social care professionals and held at RCC in Briar Road, Twickenham.
Cllr Denise Carr, Cabinet Member for Adult Services, Health and Housing on Richmond Council, said:
“There are estimated 18,000 unpaid carers in the borough, many of whom have jobs and additional family commitments but still find time to look after others - it is vital they receive support.
“The workshops will provide valuable information and advice, as well as allowing carers to meet people in similar circumstances to themselves.
“I urge anybody who feels they need additional support to contact the Carers Centre.”
Karen Butler from the RCC, said:
"Through these workshops,we aim to improve the health and social well being of carers by providing a supportive environment to learn more about the illnesses or disabilitiesof the person they care for.
“Meeting other carersin these sessions also provides a chance to exchange experiences and concerns."
All sessions are free. Arrangements for the reimbursement of cost of respite are available. Please contact the RCC in advance for details.
