Drivers race to win green title

There will be a ‘pit-stop’ at Twickenham for drivers going head-to-head in the Capital Fuel Challenge, which is being held on Thursday 31 July.

The Challenge is part of the Capital Arrive ‘N’ Drive event that showcases the latest innovations to reduce emissions and improve air quality in London.

Those competing will drive their cars a minimum of 24 miles through the streets of the capital and they will have to plan the most efficient route to four check points.

Cllr David Trigg, Cabinet Member for Traffic, Transport and Parking on Richmond Council will be on hand to provide drivers with a token that they successfully reached the York House check point.

The race will be divided into public and private sector categories and will focus on measuring each car’s fuel efficiency and environmental friendliness.

The event has been organised by Greenfleet and is sponsored by Transport for London (TfL). It sets off from Horse Guards Parade.

Cllr Trigg said:

“Being more environmentally-friendly is a major priority for the Council and I am delighted that we are involved in this event, being held to promote greener travel.

“The Council does all it can to encourage sustainable transport to minimise emissions and, indeed, later this year we will become the first local authority to run our entire vehicle fleet on recycled cooking oil.

“I wish all of the competitors the best of luck on the day.”
