Spellbinding stories in borough libraries

If you love a good story you’ll have a spellbinding time in the borough’s libraries.

For a series of events, with a mystical theme, will be held during National Adult Storytelling Week, which runs from January 29 to February 2.

Richmond Council’s Cabinet Member for Youth, Culture and Leisure, Cllr John Coombs, said:

“Our libraries are becoming increasingly popular and we hope these free events encourage even more people to discover the wide variety of activities that they provide.

“If you love a good story, this special week is just up your street.”

Hilary Watkins will set the ball rolling with a talk on traditional legends. It will be held at Ham Library on Tuesday January 29, starting 12.45pm. These stories are also suitable for children over 12.  

Hilary will again be the storyteller at Hampton Library on Thursday January 31 when she recounts the story of King Arthur. This talk starts at 7pm, and is suitable for children over 15.

The death of the Norse god Balder is the subject Giles Abbott has chosen for his talk at Castelnau Library on Saturday February 2, at 3pm. His stories are suitable for children over 9.

Finally, Alex Somerville will entertain with “Tales of Weirdness and Wickedness” from the Caribbean Islands, at Whitton Library on Wednesday January 30, starting 6.30pm.
