Girls wanted for rock school

A call has gone out for young women to sample a new rock music project at Heatham House youth centre on Saturday, 9 February.

The Richmond Council-run venue will stage the first Girls Rock School, a day-long taster session for young women aged 13 to 19.

Aimed at developing confidence and skills in music performance, it will feature rock workshops on vocals, drums, guitar and bass. Participants will be introduced to the studio and also learn about song writing and forming a band.

No previous experience is necessary but young women who have their own instruments are invited to bring them. The session runs from 11am to 6pm and costs £5 including lunch.

Cllr John Coombs, Cabinet Member for Youth, Culture and Leisure on Richmond Council, said:

”This exciting project is a great opportunity for young women to get a taste of all aspects of rock music performance and production.

“It’s an addition to the increasing range of positive activities we are providing for young people in the borough, part of the Council’s commitment to increase investment in youth services.

“Depending on demand, we hope turn the Girls Rock School into a 10-week programme enabling young women to develop their musical talent.”

Organisers are also looking for female musicians to perform during the day.
