A lot of pedal power for Mayor's charities

The Mayor of Richmond upon Thames, Cllr Marc Cranfield-Adams, dropped into a bike shop in Twickenham this week as part of his drive to raise funds for his two charities.

The shop, Bikehut, has donated a Carrera mountain bike to be auctioned at a House of Commons reception being held by the Mayor on February 7. TV actor and former Blue Peter presenter, Mark Curry will be the auctioneer.

Other attractions on the night include an interview with Vince Cable MP - who helped to provide the venue - and Guardian columnist, Simon Hoggart. Entertainment will be provided by comedian and ventriloquist Paul Zerdin, fresh from playing Buttons in the Richmond Theatre pantomime.

All proceeds from the night will boost the Mayor’s charities, Diabetes UK (Richmond and Twickenham Branch) and Stepping on Out, a small local organisation which helps adults with learning difficulties develop their business skills. The mountain bike will be entered into a charity auction alongside a range of other donated prizes.

The Mayor said:

“I’d like to extend a big thank you for the generosity of everyone who has donated prizes to the charity auction.

“All money raised from the reception will help two very worthy causes that have a big impact on the lives of many people in our borough.”

Shawn Frey, store manager at Bikehut, said:

“Bikehut are delighted to be donating this bike to help raise money for the Mayor’s charities and the local area.

“It’s great to see the whole of the community come together for such great causes and Bikehut wishes the Mayor the best of luck for the auction.”

Other auction prizes include two tickets for the England v Ireland rugby international at Twickenham Stadium, donated by the RFU, a signed MCC cricket shirt, two tickets for the musical Buddy with dinner for two at PJ’s Bar & Grill in Covent Garden and a cream tea with Susan Kramer MP.

A Fortnum and Mason hamper has also been donated by a resident.
