Whitton youngsters are being urged to come forward and offer their creative talents in a unique local theatre project.
Richmond Council’s Art Service has teamed up with Bottlefed Theatre to run theatre skills workshops, local research and improvisation over an eight day period from 21 August as part of the Larkin’ About initiative.
The workshops are targeted at 12 to 18 years olds and will cover drama, storytelling, improvisation and movement, and young people will search for stories about the significance of local landmarks.
The grand finale will be a free outdoor performance that reflects the group’s experiences of living in the area. It will be held in Murray Park, Whitton, on Sunday 31 August at 5pm.
Cllr Liz Jaeger, Cabinet Member for Youth, Culture and Leisure on Richmond Council, said:
“Now in its fourth year, Larkin’ About, is a fantastic initiative that inspires young people to develop their creative talents and learn more about the area they live in.
“It has been very popular in the past and I expect that the response from both newcomers and those returning will be just as enthusiastic.
Becky Tarry, a participant of Larkin’ About in Hampton, said:
“It was really interesting to find out about Hampton because I had lived there my whole life and there was lots of stuff I didn’t know. The project gives you real confidence in what you can do and I learnt how to work in a team.
Young people who are interested in taking part in the project should contact Kathrin Bigler at Bottlefed on 07751420344 or email larkin08@bottlefed.org.
