Richmond upon Thames Council has revealed that the immediate past Mayor, Cllr Marc Cranfield-Adams, raised over £30,000 for his charity fund during 2007-2008.
The sum will be split between his chosen charities – the Richmond & Twickenham branch of Diabetes UK and Stepping on Out.
The money was raised from specific events, including three outdoor concerts last summer, two highly successful quiz nights, a reception at the House of Commons, a golf tournament and the traditional Christmas concert with the support of the Royal Military School of Music at Kneller Hall, individual donations, Gift Aid and Give as you Earn.
Between them, the two charities will receive £ 30,778.
Presentation of the cheques will take place in the Members’ Room, York House, Twickenham, on Monday 18 August at 12.30pm.
Cllr Marc Cranfield-Adams, said:
“This is a fantastic amount. I am delighted at the sum collected and would like to thank all those who contributed so generously during my Mayoral year.
“Such support demonstrates the big-hearted nature of the people, businesses and organisations in this Borough, as well as my many friends and acquaintances - particularly those from Richmond, Virginia and South Wales.
“I would encourage them to keep doing so, as the work of Diabetes UK and Stepping on Out provides huge benefits to residents both locally and nationally.”
The charities will be represented by Alistair McKinley, Chair of the local branch of Diabetes UK, and Alice Maslen, Manager of Stepping on Out.
