Voting explained as polling day nears

Determined efforts have been made by Richmond Council to explain to residents the voting procedures for the elections for the Mayor of London and the London Assembly on Thursday May 1.

An easy-to-read booklet on the procedures is being sent to every home along with details of all the candidates. Similar information will be displayed at the entrance to each of the 75 polling stations. There will also be a large, full colour guide displayed.

Deputy Constituency Returning Officer, Gillian Norton, said:

“These are very important elections and we want to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to exercise their right to vote and understands the voting procedures.

“We have made great efforts to ensure that the electoral register is as complete and accurate as possible.

“But if anyone has any queries about the process, including postal voting, they should contact our electoral services team as soon as possible.”

Polling stations will be open between 7am and 10pm on May 1.

Every elector will receive three ballot papers on which they have four votes.

The Mayor of London election is on a pink ballot paper on which you have two votes, one for your first choice and one for your second choice for Mayor.

For the London Assembly Elections, there are two different ballot papers, a yellow one to elect a member for the South West Constituency (representing Hounslow, Richmond and Kingston); and a peach ballot paper to elect a London-wide member.

If you have any queries concerning the election, the electoral services team is located on the 2nd floor at Regal House, London Road, Twickenham, TW1 3QB.
