In Town Without My Car 2008
As part of Richmond Council's continuing effort to champion sustainable transport, boost the environment and encourage a healthier lifestyle, Richmond Council is currently organising two free community festivals in September.
Last year, the 'In Town Without My Car' events in Richmond and Teddington were a huge success with thousands of people coming along to take part and over 55 stallholders.
This year we are taking the roadshow to Barnes Green and revisiting Richmond Green for the larger celebration.
- Richmond Green (13 September)
- Roadshow on Barnes Green (20 September)
Both events will aim to encourage people to walk, cycle or use public transport as a substitute to always using the car and we hope to build on the successes of last year with more stallholders and more visitors. Each event will consist of information points manned by officers from the Council, partner organisations, local businesses and voluntary organisations.
There will also be lots of free attractions for children and families, including a bouncy castle, face painting and this year we will be having a performance area with music, dance and sport.
Last year over 50 organisations took a free stall at either of the events. This included local cycle shops, gyms, health groups, walking clubs and a number of national organisations.
These will hopefully be very high profile events. Pre-assembled stalls are provided
This includes; roof covering, tables and chairs. Each stallholder can have up to two stalls each.
The Council co-ordinates an extensive PR campaign to promote both events. And the Richmond day coincides with the Great River Race. This therefore will result in a high footfall.
It is all free!
To attend either event won’t cost your organisation any money. The deadline for registration is 5 September.
