People living with dementia want to continue to use their local high streets and amenities but can often find it a challenging place to be. It is important that we all take small steps to make our communities as inclusive and understanding as possible.
Dementia Friendly Villages is a project run by Community Links in partnership with the Richmond Dementia Action Alliance. It works with local businesses and organisations to help local villages take small steps to become Dementia Friendly.
For local businesses and organisations, this involves:
These small actions will help raise awareness of dementia and have a real impact in making Mortlake a dementia friendly community. To find out more, contact Community Links.
As part of our ongoing commitment to Village Planning and strengthening communities, we have launched the Village Planning Fund. The fund is also known as Neighbourhood Community Infrastructure Levy (NCIL), and is a percentage of a development levy we place on most new developments to provide the infrastructure needed to support growth in the borough.
The fund will be used to deliver physical and social infrastructure projects for community benefit, which are addressing the demand that development has placed on an area. Applicants must live or work in the borough of Richmond upon Thames.
If you are fund raising for a new project, whether you are a community group or an informal group, our Civic Pride Fund is available to help fund community initiatives.
RCVS are a not-for-profit organisation commissioned by us to support the voluntary sector in Richmond borough. They run a service which connects potential volunteers with charities who need support.

Come along to consultation events to discuss with us how your local area can be improved, or fill in an online questionnaire when a consultation is ongoing. For more information on which consultations are currently taking place, visit the Consultation Portal.
Do you have an idea for how your local community could be improved, and the desire to help make it happen? If you do, the Council has a dedicated service to support you, called Community Links.
