Motorcycle parking

The rules for motorcycle parking are different from other vehicles.

On-street parking places

Motorcycles can park in the following parking places at any time:

  • Resident parking bays in Controlled Parking Zones (CPZs) without a resident permit;
  • Pay By Phone without payment;
  • Pay and Display bays without payment; and
  • Shared use bays within·CPZs (for example, a combination of resident permit, Pay By Phone and pay and display).

How to park

Motorcycles should be parked in a sensible manner that reduces the impact on parking space for other vehicles (at the end of bays where possible).

They should be parked within a bay and at 90 degrees to the kerb, except where the gradient/camber of the road does not allow it, or an obstruction could be caused to traffic.

Where not to park

Motorcycles must not park in the following parking places during controlled hours:

Yellow lines and footway parking

Motorcycles must adhere to the yellow line restrictions as signposted, and must not park on pavements (except where a footway parking exemption is in place).

Off-street pay and display car parks

Motorcycles must park in the free motorcycle bays where provided.

If this is not possible, motorcycles must park in a car parking space and purchase a pay and display ticket. We advise you to write on the word 'Motorcycle' and your registration number on your ticket, to discourage theft.
