Larks in the Parks

The Arts Service at Orleans House Gallery is proud to present this summer’s Larks In The Parks festival, featuring 5 different shows in 5 different parks across the borough. Specially selected venues include green flag parks that offer families refreshment, toilet and recreation facilities. From marvelling at Professor Kayoss’ Answer to Everything Machine to listening to the wise teachings of Aesops fables there’ll be something to amaze and entertain all ages.

Larks in the Parks is co-ordinated by the Arts Service at Orleans House Gallery, in partnership with the Parks and Open Spaces Service and Richmond Council Environment Department, with additional support from SmarterTravel.

… Is it a bird, is it a plane…. It’s The Amazing Cycled Powered Answer to Everything Machine. Join Professor Kayoss as he entertains and educates with his hilarious environmental awareness show. He is a master of the dustbin, the skip, the school jumble, the odd looking pile of stuff in the road. With his recycled bits and bobs creating a 5 metre tall pedal-powered puppet show he encourages audiences to take beetter care of the world we live in.

Paper People

Carlise Park

From 12:30pm and 2:30pm on Thursday 5 August. Particularly suitable for children aged 4-8 years and their families.

Performed by disabled artists, using their newspaper stand, the characters and environments emerge from the pages. Familiar and inspiring, live animations, all appear to be different, yet they began in the same way, from within a simple sheet of paper. This performance celebrates the differences and the similarities among us. Paper People was commissioned by Shape as part of their ‘Inspired by 2012’ programme.

Aesop's Fables

Barnes Green

From 12:30pm and 2:30pm on Tuesday 10 August. Particularly suitable for children aged 4-12 years

With their simple morals based on universal truths, sit back and enjoy tales which have formed part of childhood lore for over 2000 years!

Amongst the twelve fables represented are:

  • Be happy with who you are
  • The hare and the tortoise
  • The boy who cried wolf
  • Honesty is the best policy
  • A burden shared is a burden no longer
  • How the tortoise got its shell

Alien Adventure

King's Field

From 12:30pm and 2:30pm on Thursday 12 August. Particularly suitable for children aged 3-7 years.

Using role play, the storyteller takes Little Zoggie and the children into a ‘story’ then leaves them to their own devices as shipwrecked sailors.  Using books and their imagination the children continue with their adventure to create a way home.  Participation props and costumes available for 40 children so make sure to arrive early or come ready for adventure in your own pirate oufit!

Poetry Planet

Terrace Gardens

From 12:30pm and 2:30pm on Monday 16 August. Particularly suitable for children aged 5-8 years

New poems, old favourites, poems to sing along to, poems to dance to, recycled poems....Silly hats, poetry puppets, haiku balloons and a whole heap of fun.  Directed by Helen Eastman, whose award winning shows for children include Cloudcuckooland, Speakout, Hercules and Poetry Party and featuring the much loved Live Canon ensemble, this promises to be a treat of the summer.
