Street lighting
Street lighting faults
The Highway Management Group is responsible for the street lighting, illuminated road signs and bollards on the public highway, excluding Trunk Roads A316 and A205.
Our responsibilities include:
- Inspection of the lighting
- Maintenance and design of new lighting schemes
Inspections take place on a weekly basis and are carried out during the hours of darkness.
What happens when a street light is not working
Where a street light, sign or bollard is reported as not working, the Street Lighting Team (through its contractor) aim to fix the problem within 7 days.
If the problem is complicated, there may be times where a repair may take longer than 7 days. An example of this is if the fault lies with the supply from the Regional Electricity Board, then delays can last up to eight weeks.
