Road cleaning
As a part of our aim to make our borough clean, safe and green we are committed to ensuring our public roads, footpaths and pavements are clean.
You are able to find out when a street in the Borough will next be cleaned using our online street cleansing schedule search facility
What we will do
- We will clean all town centres daily, which includes sweeping up litter, emptying litter bins and removing dog mess.
- We will ensure that when there are large events such as international rugby games, there will be more street cleaning personnel on duty.
- We will clean other public streets and roads to a set timetable once every two weeks.
- We will ensure that our web pages are kept up to date with current information and that you can check when your street will be swept.
- We will clean the public streets between 6am and 8pm to avoid causing a noise nuisance.
- We will ensure all broken glass or dangerous objects are removed from public areas within 12 hours of us being notified.
- Our contractor is responsible for street cleansing and will report incidents of fly tipping, abandoned vehicles, and graffiti for investigation by our Street Scene Enforcement team.
- We will aim to meet the standards defined by the Environmental Protection Act 1990.
- We will ensure that if you contact us we respond to you within our Council’s customer service standards.
Please note: Street cleansing schedules may be amended in the Autumn when leaf fall is heavy, to allow staff to concentrate on leaf clearance.
What we would like you to do
- Please try to reduce, reuse and recycle as much as possible.
- Please dispose of litter and chewing gum in the litter bins provided.
- Please clean up after your dog, not picking up the dog mess from a dog in your charge in any area accessible to the public is an offence in our Borough. More information on dog fouling and dog control orders within the Richmond Borough.
- Please report abandoned vehicles, fly tipping, graffiti or overflowing bins to us by telephone on 08456 122 660 or using our online Street Scene fault reporting form.
- Please keep hedges and other vegetation cut back from roads and foopaths as it helps us to gain access to clean the street and prevents people from having to step into the roadway risking their safety. Overgrown vegetation can also block the view of passing drivers.
