Business parking permits
Single zone business permits are available for parking in business bays in the controlled parking zone where your business is located. You should be aware that business permits are
- Only available to businesses located within some controlled parking zones
- Limited to 5 per business
- Available for a specific vehicle or in the business' name
- Available in 3, 6 and 12 month durations
- Only for vehicles used for company business (not commuting)
All zone business permits are available for parking in any resident or business bay within any controlled parking zone (excluding event day zones and zone A1 business bays). These are
- Available to any business within the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames
- Limited to 5 per business
- Available for a specific vehicle or in the business' name
- Available in 3, 6 and 12 month durations
The cost of permits are based on
- The hours of operation of the Controlled Parking Zone
- Whether the permit is valid for inner zones (Zones D and X only)
- The duration of the permit being purchased
- The carbon dioxide emissions or cylinder capacity of the vehicle, or the highest banded vehicle if the permit is in the business' name
- Whether the permit is the first or subsequent for your business.
When applying you will need to provide proof of address, proof that your business operates from that address, and for vehicle-specific permits the vehicle registration document.
How to apply
Following the steps below will ensure that you have all of the necessary knowledge and paperwork when you come to make your application.
If you have any queries, then staff at The Parking Shop will be happy to help (contact information is available on the Parking contact details page). Alternatively, check out the Frequently asked Questions page.
Please note that other types of permits are available such as Season tickets for Car Parks (subject to a waiting list), Operational permits and Clergy/Doctor's permits. See the Operational Permits and Other Permits pages for more information.
If you feel you would like to apply for one of these, then you are advised to speak to the staff at The Parking Shop as strict eligibility rules apply and all such permits require council authorisation before they can be issued.
Step 1 - Find your Controlled Parking Zone
For single zone permits you will need to know your controlled parking zone. If you do not already know it, look at parking signage closest to where your business is located. This will state the zone letter(s). In addition, at the edge of the zone will be zone entry and exit signs detailing the zone letter(s) and hours of operation.
Further information on Controlled Parking Zones - including a map of all the zones within the borough - can be found on the Controlled Parking Zones pages.
Step 2 - Decide on the number of permits you want and their duration
There is a general limit of 5 permits at any one time for businesses. If you need more then you should email The Parking Shop at twickenham.parking.shop@richmond.gov.uk stating how many permits you would like and the reason for needing them.
Business parking spaces within the borough are very limited, hence this restriction on the number you can have.
Permits are only available for 3, 6 and 12 month durations.
Step 3 - Find the vehicle bands
T
he price of permits is based on the cylinder capacity of vehicle if they were first registered before 1st March 2001; or the carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions if registered on or after 1st March 2001.
More information on how to find the correct band for your staff vehicles can be found on the Vehicle banding for parking permits explained page.
If you are applying for transferable permits (i.e. permits displaying your business' name), then you will need to find the highest band of the vehicles on which those permits will be used. If a vehicle is seen displaying a permit of a lower band than the vehicle then it will be liable for a penalty charge notice.
If the vehicles are all different bands, then we recommend that you purchase vehicle-specific permits for each to minimise the cost.
Step 4 - Decide whether the permit is the first or subsequent
Second and subsequent permits for a business are charged 50% more than the first permit issued to your business.
If you are applying for more than one permit, you should make sure that the highest banded vehicle has the first permit to minimise the cost.
Step 5 - Download the application form and additional guidance notes
The application form contains the information you will need to purchase and use your permit(s) and you should download and read it thoroughly before completing.
You should also download the 'Additional guidance notes and prices' for your zone as these contain additional instructions on where you can use your permit, and a price list for your zone which you can keep for future reference.

If you are unsure what proofs to provide, contact The Parking Shop (details on the Parking contact details page) and staff will be happy to advise you.
Step 7 - Send or take the application to The Parking Shop
You may send your application by post or take it yourself to The Parking Shop, address details are available on the Parking contact details page.
You should have the following:
- A completed application form

If you take the application in person then please expect a short wait. If applying by post, then we recommend that you allow 14 days to process your application. You must ensure that your staff park legally until you receive your permits.
