The Twickenham Event CPZ (zone R)

The Twickenham Event CPZ (zone R) was introduced in 1999 to provide parking priority for residents and businesses in a number of roads surrounding the stadium. The zone R CPZ operates only when there is a major event at Twickenham Rugby Stadium.

Roads or parts of roads situated inside of the CPZ area fall under either the London Borough of Richmond or the London Borough of Hounslow. Both Councils have been in receipt of complaints concerning parking problems in the areas to the north and south of the existing Event CPZ. The complaints reflect parking problems created by commuters and/or parking by those attending major events at Twickenham Rugby Stadium.

The purpose of the consultation carried out for roads within the blue boundary (London Borough of Richmond) shown on the attached plan is to seek the views of residents and businesses on which of the following three options they would prefer for their road:

  1. An ‘Event only’ CPZ. That is, an extension to zone R which operates only when there is an event at Twickenham Rugby stadium.
  2. A CPZ which operates during the daytime (e.g. Monday to Friday, Monday to Saturday or Monday to Sunday) as well as during major events at Twickenham Rugby Stadium.
  3. No changes at all to the parking arrangements.

(Residents within the London Borough of Hounslow - green boundary on map - are being consulted on option 1 as this has been deemed appropriate by the London Borough of Hounslow).

Update and outcome of the consultation

Following the outcome of the recent consultation on a possible extension to the RFU Twickenham event “R” Zone and/or a possible weekday controlled parking zone, the Cabinet Member for Traffic, Transport and Parking has decided to:

  • Progress no further with an extension to the Twickenham Event “R” Zone, and,
  • Progress no further with a new weekday controlled parking zone.
