What is a Controlled Parking Zone?

A Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ) is an area where parking is not allowed during specified times unless you park in the specially provided bays. The times of the zone will be displayed on the zone entry signs, which will be present on all routes into the zone.

If you live, work or visit an area which is within a Controlled Parking Zone, then you need to be aware of the parking restrictions and that you will need to use the specially provided parking spaces (e.g. metered, pay and display, or Permit Holder) unless parking on private land.

Single yellow lines within the Controlled Parking Zone will be enforced during the hours of zone operation, with additional restrictions being detailed on signs next to the lines.

Double-yellow lines will apply at all times unless otherwise signposted.

Footway parking (i.e. parking on the pavement) is not allowed anywhere within London, unless specifically marked on the road and with signs.

The types of parking bays available within the borough can be found on the Parking Bays page, and the hours of operation of zones, the bays available and maps can be found on the Controlled Parking Zone times and maps page.

If you require information regarding CO2 emissions linked to parking charges, please see Frequently Asked Questions about emission based charging for parking permits.

There is also some detailed information explaining the vehicle banding for parking permits.
