A printable version of this page is available, download the Vehicle banding explained document here
(pdf, 45KB).
From 2nd April 2007 the Council bases parking permit charges on the vehicle carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions or cylinder capacity, depending on when the vehicle was first registered.
The permits with charges based on vehicle emissions or cylinder capacity are
- Residents parking permits
- Business parking permits
- Operational parking permits
- Carers parking permits
- Teachers parking permits
- Doctors parking permits
Permit types which will not be charged based on vehicle emissions or cylinder capacity are
- Resident visitor parking permits
- Traders parking permits
- Clergy parking permits
- Twickenham Event (R) Zone resident parking permits
- Twickenham Event (R) Zone resident visitor parking permits
- Twickenham Event (R) Zone business parking permits
- Season tickets
To find out which band your vehicle falls into, you will first need to find out whether it was registered on or after 1st March 2001. This will be given in your vehicle registration document as 'Date of first registration'.
Vehicles registered on or after 1st March 2001
In your vehicle registration document will be detailed the 'CO2 (g/km)', from this you will be able to find your vehicle band using the table below.
| CO2 Value | Vehicle Band | Decrease/Increase in pre-April 2007 Prices |
|---|---|---|
| Less than or equal to 100g/km | Band A | - 100% (Free) |
| More than or equal to 101g/km but less than or equal to 120g/km |
Band B | - 50% |
| More than or equal to 121g/km but less than or equal to 150g/km |
Band C | - 10% |
| More than or equal to 151g/km but less than or equal to 165g/km |
Band D | + 10% |
| More than or equal to 166g/km but less than or equal to 185g/km |
Band E | + 30% |
| More than or equal to 186g/km but less than or equal to 225 g/km |
Band F | + 50% |
| More than or equal to 226g/km | Band G | + 200% |
Vehicles registered on or before 28th February 2001
In your vehicle registration document will be detailed the 'Cylinder capacity (cc)' of your vehicle, from this you will be able to find your vehicles band using the table below:
| Cylinder Capacity (cc) | Vehicle Band | Decrease/Increase in pre-April 2007 Prices |
|---|---|---|
| Less than or equal to 1000cc | Band B | - 50% |
| More than or equal to 1001cc but less than or equal to 1550cc |
Band H | - 30% |
| More than or equal to 1551cc but less than or equal to 1800cc |
Band J | - 20% |
| More than or equal to 1801cc but less than or equal to 2400cc |
Band D | + 10% |
| More than or equal to 2401cc but less than or equal to 3000cc |
Band F | + 50% |
| More than or equal to 3001cc | Band G | + 200% |
You will need to provide your vehicle registration document when you apply for a permit; however, to find out your vehicle emissions or cylinder capacity you can also use the online facilities at www.vcacarfueldata.org.uk or www.vehiclelicence.gov.uk.
Please note
If you are applying for a permit and a member of your household already holds a current permit issued on or after 2nd April 2007 then you will be charged 50% more than you would have had to pay were your permit the first in your household. (Before 1st April 2008 this was 25%).
If there is more than one figure for CO2 emissions given on your vehicle registration document, then you should use the manufacturer's figure.
Vehicles which have been converted to use liquified petroleum gas (LPG) get a one band reduction and you will need to provide a conversion certificate.
