Traders parking permits

Image of Resident Visitor or Trader Parking Permit Books Before continuing, you should be aware of the following facts regarding traders' permits:

  • Available to buy for individual half-days (or whole days for short-hours zones)
  • No minimum number of half-day permits
  • Maximum of 50 permits at any one time
  • Entitle traders to park in residents' bays
  • Proof of working is required on each purchase.

How to apply

Following the steps below will ensure that you have all of the necessary knowledge and paperwork when you come to make your application.

If you have any queries, then staff at The Parking Shop will be happy to help (contact information is available on the Parking contact details page).  Alternatively, check out the Frequently asked Questions page.

Step 1 - Find your Controlled Parking Zone

If you do not already know it, look at the parking signage closest to the property where you are working.  This will state the zone letter(s).  In addition, at the edge of the zone will be zone entry and exit signs detailing the zone letter(s) and hours of operation.

Further information on Controlled Parking Zones - including a map of all the zones within the borough - can be found on the Controlled Parking Zones pages.

Step 2 - Decide on the number of permits you need

Permits are available in increments of a half-day, and up to 50 may be purchased at any one time.  You will need two for a full-day zone, or one for a short-hours zone i.e.

  • B1 - North Barnes
  • CB1 - Barnes Village
  • CB2 - South Barnes
  • E - South Twickenham
  • J - Townshend
  • KA - Kew
  • KB - South Kew
  • M - Mortlake
  • T - Teddington

For example, if you are working for a week on a property within a full-day zone, then you will need a book of 10 half-day permits.

Permits are priced at £2.20 each for within the A1 and A2 zones, or £1.10 for all other zones.

Step 3 - Download and read the application form and guidance notes

The application form contains the information you will need to purchase and use your permits and you should download and read it thoroughly before completing.

You should also download the 'Additional guidance notes and prices' for the zone you will be working in as these contain additional instructions on where you can use your permits.

Step 4 - Collect the proofs of eligibility

The Traders permit application form details the proofs you will need to provide and you should make sure you have the originals of these to present with your application. If you cannot provide the necessary proofs then we will not be able to issue you with permits.

Examples of proof of working are:

  • Invoices
  • Works Orders
  • Estimates for Work
  • Architects' drawings

If you are unsure what proofs to provide, contact The Parking Shop (details on the Parking contact details page) and staff will be happy to advise you.

Proofs are required to stop fraudulent purchase of permits.

Step 5 - Take the application to The Parking Shop

You should take or post your application to The Parking Shop.  Address details are available on the Parking contact details page.

You should supply the following:

  • A completed application form
  • Proof of working
  • Payment.

If applying in person please expect a short wait whilst staff process your application.  If you post your application then please allow 14 days for your permits to be sent.
