Junior Citizen project
Richmond's Safety Education Team organizes and participates in two Junior Citizen events every year. The scheme is a partnership between the council and outside agencies. These include:
- London Fire Brigade,
- London Ambulance Service,
- Metropolitan Police,
- London Transport Museum,
- Port of London Authority
- UK Power Networks
Small groups of year 6 pupils from every junior school in the borough, and a number of independent schools visit several different scenarios during the course of their half day visit. At each one they have to make decisions which could affect their own safety or the safety of others.
For example they learn how to deal with a casualty.
Witnessing a mugging.
Important facts about railway and underground safety.
What to do if someone is stuck in the mud on the riverbank.
How accidents can happen and what they could do to help.
They acquire valuable life skills which they remember for many years.
The Junior Citizen events take place in the fantastic surroundings of the Royal Parks - Holly Lodge in Richmond Park and The Stockyard in Bushy Park.
