Tips for parties
There is no law against having a party, but it is against the law to cause a noise nuisance. If you have a party it is your responsibility to ensure you do not disturb your neighbours. You can reduce the risk of someone complaining about your party if you are considerate and follow these tips:
- Keep windows closed so the noise doesn’t travel
- Ask guests to keep quiet if they go outside for some fresh air or as they leave
- Keep the volume of music down from late evening onwards - most people don’t mind a little noise until then
- Warn your neighbours that you are going to have a party. Alternatively, why not invite the neighbours?
Please remember - if your party does cause a noise nuisance, your sound system could be taken away and you could be taken to court and fined up to £5,000, which is not a pleasant outcome for what should be an enjoyable occasion for everyone.
