Car alarms

If you are being affected by a noisy car alarm, contact us and we may be able to take action if it is causing a nuisance.

Details

We will respond to complaints about noisy car alarms.

  1. We will initially contact the police to ascertain the registered keeper of the vehicle and where they live. We will then try and make contact with them to inform them of the situation.
  2. We then visit the location of the vehicle to ascertain whether the alarm is causing a nuisance.
  3. If we consider it is a nuisance and we are unable to locate the owner, we will consider taking formal action under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 to switch the alarm off.
  4. We can serve a notice on the vehicle and employ a contractor to break into the vehicle to disable the alarm and then re-secure the vehicle. If the contractor is unable to do this, the vehicle may be towed away to a secure compound.
  5. All costs incurred by the council will then be recovered at a later date from the owner of the vehicle.
