Reporting hate crime - True Vision Richmond

True Vision hate crime self-reporting sites and packs

Since the True Vision scheme was introduced in September 2006 Richmond upon Thames Community Safety Partnership has supported it as it enables victims or witnesses of Hate Crime based on racism, religious hatred, homophobia or transphobia to report incidents and pass on information to the police without having to go to a police station or talking directly to a police officer.

The packs are designed to increase the ways in which individuals can pass on information or intelligence to the police. The packs can be found at designated hate crime reporting sites across the borough.

What are True Vision hate crime self reporting packs?

The packs contain a self-reporting form, information and advice leaflets on the relevant hate crime and a freepost envelope to return the form. Each pack also includes leaflets on the associated issues of bullying, domestic abuse and being streetwise. The forms, which can be filled in by victims or witnesses can either be completed anonymously or with contact details.

There are 2 packs

  • A race and religion pack covering racism and religious hatred
  • A lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) pack covering homophobia and transphobia

What happens to the packs once they are completed?

Once you have put the completed self-reporting form it goes to the Metropolitan Police Service Diversity Directorate at Empress State Building, who enter the information onto the police system. The information is then monitored by the Territorial Policing Crime Directorate CSU Service Delivery Team, who pass the information to the relevant Community Safety Unit (the CSU is the dedicated team of police officers who specialise in investigating and prosecuting offenders of domestic violence and hate crimes) in each borough. If you gave your contact details you may then be contacted by the CSU as part of any investigation.

Future developments

The Community Safety Partnership now has a Hate Crime Coordinator in post and an improved third party reporting system is being developed. This will provide more support for victims and witnesses of all forms of Hate Crime.
