Police Liaison Groups (PLG)
What is a Police Liaison Group?
It liaises with and is the bridge between the community and the Police.
PLGs come under the umbrella of the Community and Police Partnership (CPP) and the minutes/notes of meetings are added to the CPP agenda for the following meeting.
That enables CPP members to see the issues that are occurring in the various parts of the borough and how they are being resolved. Meetings are held four to six times each year. Here is a list of PLG ward meetings for 2010
(pdf, 48KB) - please be aware that dates, times and venues are subject to change and it is advised that you contact the PLG ward Chair
(pdf, 54KB) before attending.
Why were these PLGs set up?
Before the advent of ward based police teams Safer Neighbourhood Teams (SNTs), it was often very difficult for residents to contact police about day-to-day, ongoing problems. These groups were set up to provide the vehicle by which the police and representatives ofthe ward can meet regularly to discuss and find solutions to the various concerns and problems of the area. They also give members of the community, “a voice”.
Who are the Community?
Councillors, representatives of residents associations, local groups, Neighbourhood Watch representatives, traders, concerned individuals, churches, schools etc. Ideally members should represent other people/a section of the community, rather than just themselves but individuals are able to attend the “public” meetings held twice each year.
Who are the Police?
In our borough, they are the Richmond Division of the Metropolitan Police. In your ward, your first point of contact is your Safer Neighbourhood Team, as a great deal of your work will be undertaken in partnership with them.
A good PLG can improve the quality of life, reduce crime and the fear of crime for its residents, by working with the police and other agencies, and involving as many members of a ward as is possible.
For more information about your ward PLG please contact the PLG ward Chair.
