Flood warnings
The Environment Agency are responsible for monitoring weather forecasts, rainfall and river levels on a continuous basis in order to detect and forecast possible flooding. They also issue Flood Warnings to the Emergency Services, Local Authorities and those who have signed up to their Flood Warnings Direct service.
Flood warnings direct will send one of four possible messages to you by a variety of means including text, phone message and fax to warn you of flooding in your area.

How to get flood warnings
If you live in a flood risk area and would like to speak to someone about receiving flood warnings, telephone the Environment Agency's Floodline on 0845 988 1188.
Is your property at risk of flooding?
You can obtain information about the flood risk in your area using the Flood Map service. You can check if your property is at risk of flooding by entering your post code in the flood map window.
Flooding and insurance
In some cases, insurance companies may ask their customers to provide more information on the flood risk in their area. The Environment Agency is able to produce Insurance Related Requests for information (IRR) in the form of a letter. The letter will provide information such as the likelihood category of the area of land which your property is within and whether they have any schemes planned to improve the standard of protection in your area.
If your insurance company have specifically asked you to obtain an IRR, telephone 08708 506 506 and ask to speak to the External Relation team for your area.
