Primary School Netball Festival
17 October 2008
Pupils from 26 of the borough's primary schools demonstrated their sporting skills at the annual netball festival on Friday 17 October at Old Deer Park in Richmond.
Schools were organised into six groups for the morning session, before being placed in either the cup or plate competitions in the afternoon.
The top 12 schools qualified for the cup competition. In the semi-finals Archdeacon Cambridge took on St James, while Chase Bridge played Sheen Mount. Both matches were very close but St James and Chase Bridge went onto the final.
Both teams were determined to win, but after an early goal from St James, Chase Bridge defended extremely well and the score remained the same for two quarters. Towards the end St James found some extra strength and increased their lead to become 2008 cup champions!
The afternoon draw saw the remainder of the schools excel in the plate competition. Two very equal semi-finals between Trafalgar and Hampton Junior and St Edmunds versus Buckingham led to a thrilling final. St Edmunds snatched the win from Hampton Junior to secure their victory as plate champions!
At the end of the festival winners and runners up were presented with medals and trophies to mark their achievements. All participants were recognised for their excellent play throughout the day.
Congratulations to everyone who took part.
