Competitive Edge Hi-5 Netball Festival
Friday 5 November 2010
Pupils from 28 of the boroughs primary schools displayed their talent during a Hi-5 Netball festival on Friday 5 November, organised by Richmond Council's Sports Development Team.
The festival ran as part of the borough’s Competitive Edge Scheme, aimed at encouraging young people to take part and develop an interest in competitive sport. It was held at Old Deer Park in Richmond, with the support of qualified umpires and enthusiastic volunteers.
Schools were organised into six groups for the morning session, before being placed in either the cup or plate competitions for the afternoon session.
The top 12 schools qualified for the cup competition. The cup games were 12 minutes in duration and there were some close scores. The semi finals saw St Edmunds versus Stanley and St James versus Archdeacon. Archdeacon beat last years winners St James in a convincing fashion and went on to beat Stanley in a hard fought final.
The afternoon draw saw the remainder of schools excel in the plate competition. After some great play the final was between St Mary's and St Peter's and Bishop Perrin. Bishop Perrin had played well all day and displayed lots of potential, which led to a victory for them in the final.
Players were presented with trophies and medals and despite a little rain, everyone had a great day. Congratulations to everyone who took part.
Action shots and team photographs were taken on the day by Vicki Sharp Photography. Photographs can be purchased from her website.
