Girl's Football Festival

Pupils from 25 of the boroughs primary schools competed in the Competitive Edge Girls Football Festival on Friday 27 February 2009 at NPL in Teddington.

The schools were organised into six groups for round robin games the morning, before being placed into the cup or plate competitions for the afternoon.  The top 12 teams qualified for the cup competition, with the remaining schools taking part in the plate competition.

In the plate competition, both semi-finals were extremely close matches with Collis overcoming Archdeacon Cambridge 1 – 0 and St Osmund’s beating East Sheen 2 – 1 to qualify for the final.  The final was also an extremely close fought match with Collis scoring the only goal of the match against St Osmund’s to win the plate competition.

In the cup competition Barnes took on Stanley in the first semi final. Neither team managed to score after full time or extra time.  After a countback of goals scored Stanley were declared the winners and progressed to the final.  In the second semi-final St Stephens scored the only goal of the game against St James to secure their place in the final. In an exciting final between Stanley and St Stephens, St Stephens scored an excellent goal, the only goal of the game, to win the match and the cup

The sun was shining for the teams, there was great play and good sportsmanship between the teams and lots of support.  Brentford Community Sports Trust were present on the day and winners and runners up were presented with their trophies and medals.
