The success of Richmond in local and national competitions is thanks to the help of volunteers working in partnership with the Council.

Britain in Bloom

The Britain in Bloom competition has been going since 1963. The Royal Horticultural Society has been running the campaign since 2002. It is a popular campaign with over 1000 entries per year. Success from local and regional in bloom competitions determines which villages, towns or cities are entered into the national competition. Judging criteria is not just about floral displays but also involves horticultural achievement, community participation and environmental responsibility.

Richmond was entered into Britain in Bloom for the first time in 2011 with the support of London in Bloom. This was a huge achievement for the borough and was in recognition of its achievements in the London in Bloom competition in recent years. The Parks Department worked in partnership with volunteers from Richmond Borough in Bloom, residents, businesses, Friends Groups and many others to maintain the high standards across the borough which helped the Borough achieve a Silver Gilt.

Reg Leach, Parks Operations Manager ran a regular column in the Richmond & Twickenham Times (who were also very supportive of the 2011 campaigns) to keep residents updated on tips and hints to achieve great gardens and frontages.

We now look forward to even greater success in 2012. If you are a business or a resident and want to become involved in the Bloom campaign please email
