Kew Green, Richmond, TW9 3BH
Originally thought to have been a natural pond fed from a creek of the tidal Thames, Kew pond now has no natural inflow. During high (spring) tides sluice gates are opened to allow river water to fill the pond via an underground channel. The pond is located to the northeast of Kew Green. It is concreted, rectangular in shape and contains valuable reedbed habitat and a resident population of water birds. There are proposals to undertake major re-landscaping works to improve the pond both for the local community and wildlife.
