Allotment size

The plots range from 5 rods (approximately 30 feet x 45 feet/125 square metres) to 10 rods (approximately 30 feet x 90 feet/250 square metres). There are smaller plots on some sites.

Rent an allotment

Rents are calculated on an annual basis according to size. Currently a small plot costs £35 per annum and a large plot costs £70. There are 50% concessions available to tenants who live in the Borough who are over 60, unemployed, disabled, students or on low income.

Renting an allotment does not require any experience or knowledge. They are open to to everyone, families and newcomers are welcome. There are plenty of experienced gardeners on most sites who are happy to pass on their knowledge and there are many books on the subject too.

Allotment details

All the sites are fitted with communal taps and generally they are within easy reach of most plots. The Council does not provide sheds but sometimes previous tenants leave them and new tenants can negotiate with them.
