In addition to specific sites concerned with art it is now possible to access many reference books online through the services we subscribe to. Oxford Reference Online
The Oxford Reference Online allows access to the following titles:

Oxford Reference provides links to websites checked and approved by them, all available from every subject area and each book within the collection
Also available through Online Borrower Services is Grove Art Online. This provides web access to the entire text of The Dictionary of Art (1996, 34 vols.) with ongoing additions of new material and updates to the text, plus links to specialist image collections, and all the sophisticated search advantages possible with an online reference resource. Grove Art Online now also includes access to the Oxford Companion to Western Art making it an ideal source for concise, authoritative information on western art and an excellent starting point for basic information for students and scholars alike.
WWW Virtual Library
WWW Virtual Library provides a handy way to find links to national and other galleries and museums in countries around the world. It has a section devoted to art galleries.
