Joining a library

How to join Richmond Libraries

It is easy to join the Library and there are two types of membership - permanent membership and temporary membership.

Permanent membership

To obtain permanent membership of the library service:

On completion a library card and a PIN will be issued which will enable you to borrow up to a maximum of 10 items including audio visual material.

Your card will also allow you to use a public computer terminal in libraries and use the 24/7 electronic services from home.

Temporary membership

Temporary membership for adults who are new to the area, do not have proof of address or unaccompanied children.

To obtain temporary membership of the library service, complete an application form available from all Branch Libraries and the Central Reference Library.

You can download a copy of the application form here(pdf, 532KB).

On completion a library card and a PIN will be issued which will enable you to borrow up to a maximum of 5 books.

Your card will also allow you to use a public computer terminal in libraries and use the 24/7 electronic services from home.

A temporary card is valid for 6 months but can be converted into permanent membership by adults showing official proof of address (as listed above) and children obtaining a counter signature.
