NetLibrary e-books

NetLibrary provides online access to hundreds of fiction and non-fiction e-books. These are books you read on a computer screen. For NetLibrary audiobooks, please see downloadable eAudiobooks.

Richmond currently subscribes to e-book titles primarily covering Computing, Networking and Communications, Business, Management, Psychology and Health. Also included are miscellaneous books on subjects such as History, Medicine, Self Help and the English Language.

NetLibrary also offers access to thousands of classic works of literature and history.

NetLibrary access

You can access NetLibrary in three different ways:

  1. From any computer in Richmond Libraries. All you have to do is follow the link www.netlibrary.com.
  2. From home, via the library catalogue Online Resources. You will need to enter your Richmond borough library card number and PIN (Please ask at any Richmond library if you need either).
  3. From home, logging into NetLibrary directly (via www.netlibrary.com) with your personal NetLibrary username and password. To do this you must first create your personal account having accessed NetLibrary using one of the methods above.

NetLibrary features

Unlimited access to Richmond's non-fiction collection and classic works of literature, from the library or from home.

Optionally, you can create your own NetLibrary personal account which will allow you to:

  • Access Richmond's NetLibrary collection from home (without going though Richmond's Online Resources every time).
  • Insert notes in particular pages of a e-book, for future reference.
  • Add favourites to your account for quick access.
  • Check out downloadable eAudiobooks.

Borrowing or checking out e-books from NetLibrary

The concept of 'checking out' e-books has been discontinued with the latest version of NetLibrary, version 4.0. All online use of NetLibrary e-books is now via the 'View' function that will open the online reader. NetLibrary is still based on a traditional library model whereby only one user can read a particular 'copy' of a book at any one time. Richmond has 1 or, now in most cases, 2 copies of each title. If you try to open an e-book for which all copies are already in use, you will be asked to try again later. You can also request to be notified by e-mail when the title becomes available.

For more information, see the NetLibrary frequently asked questions.
