www.bbc.co.uk/history/familyhistory ideal for the beginner, and also holds a lot of information relating to the “Who Do You Think You Are?” TV series.
www.sog.org.uk where you can get various leaflets published by the Society of Genealogists.
www.ffhs.org.uk is another useful site for leaflets and links from the Federation of Family History Societies.

The General Register Office
The www.gro.gov.uk website for the General Register Office and has useful information on births, deaths and marriages.
Church records
Church records are held at county record offices:-
- For Surrey – The Surrey History Centre.
- For Middlesex – The London Metropolitan Archives.
Legal documents
Wills and Letters of Administration from 1858 can be searched in person at The Probate Research Room, telephone 020 7936 7000, for a small charge. Wills can also be ordered by post from the York Probate Registry. www.courtservice.gov.uk
