Family history information from the Cemeteries Team

You may be interested to know that all the information from the registers is now available online, and you can access the online burial search here.

Once you have located the information about the grave, you could download a map of the cemetery (Twickenham, Teddington or Richmond/East Sheen) to assist you when you visit.  If you are unable to visit, we can email you a digital photograph of the grave location for a fee of £40.

There are over 140,000 records on the computer system, and as the information is taken from very old registers, it may contain some errors.  Please let us know if you find any incorrect information and we will change it.  Some older entries have initials only, and we are currently working to add the full names onto the system, but this will take time.  For this reason, it is advisable to search only on the required surname, increasing the amount of records to be shown to be sure of obtaining all the records with that surname.

Records for Richmond Cemetery start from 1876. Although the cemetery opened in 1839, the records are incomplete and cannot therefore be computerised. Please contact the Cemetery Office if the burial you are trying to trace took place in Richmond between 1839 and 1876.

Records for Twickenham Cemetery are from 1868; Teddington Cemetery from 1879, Hampton Cemetery from 1879 and the Old Mortlake Burial Ground from 1909.

If the person is not buried in the Richmond Borough Cemeteries, you may also like to visit the on-line register www.bereavement-services.org which will give you the contact details of over 900 cemetery and cremation operators, and over 3000 cemeteries and burial grounds.
